community ground rules

Before initiating conversation or debate, participants will be given clear and concise expectations as to how the conversation/debate will be conducted. Ground rules are crucial for helping all participants move towards a common goal, as well as align their behavior with those that are in pursuit of truth.

1. The outcome of the conversation is not consensus or agreement, but rather hearing multiple perspectives.

2. There is not a single opinion, word, phrase, or topic that is considered “triggering”, “taboo”, “unspeakable”, “problematic”, or “controversial”.

3. Treat people like they’re people. We will not tolerate identity politics.

4. People will make mistakes during conversations. These are not opportunities to condemn, bully, or correct them in their thinking; allow them to rephrase questions or re-assess their initial thoughts if necessary.
